Earthing / Grounding

A topic that does not receive nearly the attention that it should as it relates to the health of the human organism is Earthing (or grounding). Simply put, it is barefoot or bare skin contact with The Earth and as a daily practice it has been shown to be powerfully helpful for the overall homeostasis of the human body and other living organisms. It can also be profoundly beneficial in helping the human body stave off and even help manage disease, aches and pain, wound and injury healing, anti-inflammatory benefits, sleep quality and restfulness, improve overall movement as well as a number of other things as it relates to how our system works. It is also very beneficial in helping manage the effects of a stressed brain and body from various life stressors and other environmental influences (i.e. absorption of electromagnetic fields or EMFs, allergies, molds, tick-borne illness, etc. See section on this website on “Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs)” for further information on that specifically). The following information provides much more background, information, links, and references to some of the volumes of research on this subject (click on boxes for more detailed information).

Disclaimer: I have read an extensive amount of information on this topic— from scientific papers to books, testimonials, opinion pieces, etc. I have also practiced grounding consistently with The Earth (for at least 20 minutes a day by bare skin contact since April 2023) as well as sleeping with a grounding mattress pad under our fitted sheet (whenever home since September 2023) which is connected by a cord into The Earth. As a health professional who considers himself a bit of a scientist as well, the personal health benefits my wife and I have experienced have been profound and I would happily share my experiences.

“Inflammation. One of the biggest known benefits of earthing is its ability to lower inflammation, which is linked to a lot of diseases and pain. One study pointed out the differences in concentrations of known indicators of inflammation in the blood of people who grounded compared to those who didn’t. The molecules linked to inflammation went down in people who participated in earthing more than those who didn’t get grounded.”
